When restyling your living space, most people would take a look at the color scheme, the furnishings they already have and the amount of money they have available to spend. But something which most people do not give a second thought to is the style of the baseboard.
Sure, it’s easy to stick with what is already there but if you are trying to create a fresh, contemporary style, then the traditional baseboard already in place might not be the best design idea. Take a look at some of the various modern and contemporary styles of baseboard which are now available and you may be surprised to discover how changing such a small item can have such a big impact on the overall room design.
Modern baseboard styles can give a complete and finished look to your new décor and, after all, it’s those little details which count! You can then decide whether to paint the baseboard to match your existing décor or for maximum impact, leave the beauty of the natural wood to shine through. Just stain pine to the color of your choice, (maybe a nice warm mahogany stain?) and then finish with varnish to protect. Pine is a very cheap wood to use and by experimenting with different stains, (before you fit the baseboard,) you can get a much more expensive finish than that which is offered by leaving the pine ‘au naturel’. Of course if you like pine color, then leave as it is with just a varnish or wax over the top to protect from knocks and bumps.
