The original idea was come from Buckminster Fuller. He created a geodesic dome with a plan to build a stronger structure with less material. He realized that triangle was twice as strong as a square support. So he built the entire dome of triangles. As the dome use less materials, it maximizes the volume inside. This geodesic home by Fuller was first shown at the Milan Triennale, he got his highest award, the Gran Prenio. He gained popularity because its small ecological footprint and it last longer in any climate. Now, there are over 300,000 geodesic domes in this world.

Beside less of materials on building the dome, the basic geodesic dome is more energy efficient, as it takes 30 percent less energy to heat and cool the dome than a rectilinier structure. But Ecopod is one step further by using wood small metal ball biomass stoves to heat the dome.

Ojai Valley Dome

These domes are not home, but more to public place for meeting and presenting artworks by Tejlgaard & Jepsen. Located in Denmark, it was designed by deconstructing the form of geodesic dome.
